23 bags and 11 team members arrive safely in Mwanza

We all made it safely to Mwanza this afternoon. Taka had to work some magic and hold firm on a number of occasions to get the bags containing medical supplies and equipment through all the screening posts; it was a pretty close call getting them all through on the flight from Dar Es Salaam to Mwanza as we had to collect them all, clear customs and check back in again. I just remember the look on the face of the screening girl who came across 'lead hands' in one of the bags....

Taka is amazingly organised with each bag identified, labelled and the contents all provided in a file with the customs paperwork. That said the process of moving all those bags, finding trolleys and ensuring that nothing got left behind all in a very hot and humid environment was not a small task; but everyone put their back into it and got out of the way when needed! I heard tonight that Shannon was literally barging people out of the way to grab bags off the carousel in Mwanza.

I met a lovely local guy on the plane called Mkama who taught me Swahili and told me to try local food called Ugali which apparently is "stiff porridge" - not so sure about that, I might give that a miss.

We arrived at Hotel Tilapia to a very warm welcome, grabbed a quick shower and then met at the bar for a well earned drink. Andrew ordered the food for us all to share and it was fabulous. Very tired now and a big day ahead tomorrow as the rest of the equipment is being delivered at 9am.

I am uploading some pics that should come through overnight.....
